Dream Optimist
Biography
Based in Oakland, CA, Dream Optimist is a project led by songwriter/composer David Marc Siegel. The project has neoclassical indie-pop leanings in a synth/chamber pop vein. Deeply passionate about musical theater, sentimental Yann Tiersen-esque instrumentals and novelty music alike, David leverages his background in art punk bands as much as his time writing music for ads, theater and film to achieve the delicate balance, and sometimes even a not-so-delicate imbalance.
Inspired in equal parts by groups like the Magnetic Fields, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, & New Order as by left-field composers such as Moondog, Kurt Weill, and Aram Khatchaturian, this project began in 2022 with a series of singles leveraged from complex source material, and released an extended EP in August, 2023, entitled, “Seven Day Love Challenge.
